Art Therapy for Physical Disabilities
Being fully Wheelchair Accessible, we have made sure that our Art Therapy studio is inclusive to all.
Art Therapy helps people with physical disabilities build self-confidence, give voice to self-expression, and increase a sense of joy and achievement.
This wheelchair bound client is an absolute delight to work with! COVID saw her confined to her room...until she discovered Art Therapy! She has a physical condition affecting her motor skills and movements, has been able to increase her fine motor skills through practice and has much more control of her paint brush strokes than when she first began Art Therapy.
Now, she looks forward to leaving her assisted accomodation weekly and travelling (with the aid of her Support Worker) to her Art Therapy sessions. Her view of the world has become broader, and, as her confidence has grown, she has become so much more decisive and is no longer hesitant to give voice to her choices about what she wants to create and how she wants to create it.
She no longer worries about wearing clothes to please conservative rules, but loves wearing her black and white checkered "Artist's Pants" with florals and whatever she feels like giving her a sense of celebrating her own choices and feeling good about them!
“I never dreamed I would be able to paint like this!”
- Janice T. (wheelchair bound and
69 years young!)
Prior to Art Therapy, this client thought she couldn't paint...but WOW! look at her go now!
This is a snapshot of what she's created on canvas.
She sends photos of her paintings to family and friends and has given gifts of her paintings on canvas. The aged care home where she lives loves her paintings so much that they have displayed them around the common areas for all to enjoy!
